On the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj, we pay tribute to one of India’s greatest social reformers and champions of equality. Born in 1874, Shahu Ji Maharaj was the ruler of Kolhapur State and a pioneer of social justice. He introduced reservations in education and jobs for backward classes long before it became law in independent India. He believed that education is the true tool for empowerment, and opened the doors of schools, hostels, and scholarships for the marginalized. His bold stand against caste discrimination and untouchability made him the voice of the oppressed in a time of deep social inequality.
