Atal Bihari Vajpayee, born on December 25, 1924, in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, was a visionary leader who shaped modern India. Later, he joined the RSS in 1939 and co-founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951. In 1968, Vajpayee became the national president of the Jana Sangh and, as Foreign Minister in 1977, created history by addressing the UN in Hindi. A parliamentarian for over five decades, Vajpayee was elected to the Lok Sabha 10 times. As India’s 10th Prime Minister, he led the nation through the groundbreaking Pokhran nuclear tests in 1998, cementing India’s status as a nuclear power.
