Verghese Kurien: The Milkman of India Who Revolutionized India's Dairy Industry | Dr Vivek Bindra
Verghese Kurien, fondly known as the "Milkman of India", was born on November 26, 1921, in Kozhikode, Kerala. After earning a scholarship, he pursued higher education in the United States. However, due to government placement rules, he was assigned a job in a rural village in Gujarat. Out of compulsion, Kurien started working as a dairy engineer at a milk factory in Anand, Gujarat. While working there, he realized that dairy owners were exploiting the hard work of farmers and taking all the profits. Determined to change this unjust system, he collaborated with Tribhuvandas Patel to establish AMUL. Today, AMUL boasts 1,44,500 dairy cooperative societies across India, with an annual turnover of ₹72,000 crore. Verghese Kurien is also credited as the father of the White Revolution in India, a movement that empowered farmers and transformed the country into the largest producer of milk globally. For his remarkable contributions, the Government of India honored him with prestigious awards, including the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan. Remembering Verghese Kurien, the Father of the White Revolution, on his birth anniversary. His visionary leadership transformed India’s dairy industry, empowering millions and leaving an everlasting legacy. #DrVivekBindra #Motivation #Business #BadaBusiness #Amul #AmulIndia #WhiteRevolution #DairyIndustry #DairyProducts #Inspiration #Revolutionary #Milk #Agriculture #Motivation #Growth #DrVergheseKurien
